The Plant and Microbial Biology Department (PMB)
engages in a wide variety of both fundamental and applied
research, roughly grouped within these areas into the eight
overlapping categories shown below in the Venn diagram.
Research goals vary from addressing fundamental
questions in biology to applied studies in the control or
use of plants and microbes. Some faculty conduct research
on both fundamental and applied topics.
